1805 Industry
Nicholas Appert- ‘Father of Canning’
Devised a method to preserve foodstuffs by stuffing the food in glass jars, sealing them with cork and wax, and placing them in boiling water. A precursor to modern preservation techniques. His invention came after Napoleon offered 12,000 francs to the man who could develop a method to preserve his army’s food supplies.
1817 Industry
Paperboard is born
First commercial paperboard box produced in England.
1847 Industry
Rotary Printing Press
Invented by Richard March Hoe, the lithographic rotary printing press provided a design much faster than flatbed printing.
